Lately I've been thinking a lot about different things.
With it being Thanksgiving soon I gave a challenge to my family to spend some time thinking about what their thankful for and when they say their personal prayers to try and say a prayer without asking for anything. I find myself doing this all the time, but have noticed that a lot of prayers given by my children are mostly just the opposite. One or two thankful things and the rest please bless or please help. Which are good things to pray for, but every once in a while I'm sure Heavenly Father would appreciate hearing what you're thankful for.
Just like when I do things for my kids, like laundry, fix dinner, clean up messes that they make, etc... it would be nice every once in a while for someone to actually notice that I did this for them and for them to tell me thank you. For example I was changing a 2 year olds diaper and when I was finished he said "Thank You"! I don't think anyone has ever thanked me for changing their diaper and it meant the world to me. So I'm sure that Heavenly Father would feel the same way.
We had a Relief Society meeting on this very thing only geared more towards visiting teaching and they gave us a block to put in our house to remind us of this. It says "What if you worke up Today with only the things that you thanked God for Yesterday?"
We need to also teach with love. Forcing someone doesn't get us any where.
Lately I've been struggling with this with my son. He is making some
poor choices and for some reason I thought that forcing him to make the
right choice or the choice that I thought he should make was the way to
fix things. Well guess what it's not.
Let us all remember to be Thankful on a daily basis and raise our children with more love.
